Project Overview

(MBM) were appointed by Cheltenham Ladies’ College to refurbish the Tunnel Store following the failure of the existing roof coverings and significant structural deterioration caused by rot.

The project required the careful removal of the existing roof and the construction of a new structural framework to support modern roof coverings, while respecting the historic fabric of the building.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Complex Valley Gutter Detail

The design incorporated a highly intricate valley gutter junction, which required precise detailing and workmanship to ensure longevity and watertight performance.

Structural & Roofing Replacement

MBM installed a new structural framework to replace the failed timber and provided a robust new roof covering system designed for durability and minimal maintenance.

Specialist Internal Refurbishment

The interior was fully refurbished, including specialist arched vaulted plastering to restore the character of the building. Works also included new flooring, decorations, and a full package of mechanical and electrical upgrades.

Outcome

The refurbished Tunnel Store was successfully handed over to Cheltenham Ladies’ College, providing a fully watertight, structurally sound, and modernised facility with high-quality finishes both internally and externally. The project was delivered to a high standard, safeguarding the building for many years to come.
